Abstract
Even before the pandemic forced many institutions to move their teaching online, language teachers in European schools were expected to use digital technologies in their teaching. However, it is not clear whether adequate and sufficient training for pedagogically sound integration of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) was provided. During the pandemic, under Emergency Remote Teaching (Hodges et al., 2020) conditions, many institutions were reliant on cross-institutional and cross-European initiatives. This chapter will provide some information on pre-, during and post-pandemic integration of technologies into language teaching and learning, based on a series of questionnaire studies and training initiatives. It will also provide theoretical justifications for preparing teachers for online language teaching.
