Abstract
Despite significant progress, women are still disadvantaged in many areas. Women’s equitable and inclusive learning and development are crucial for achieving gender equality. However, current lifelong learning theories and models fail to recognise the role of gender, while practice assumes that equal treatment for all ensures gender equity. This study examined how gender impacts lifelong learning experiences and outcomes. An extensive literature review first showed that gender significantly impacts lifelong learning. Next, a case study highlighted the role of gender in three training programmes delivered at a multinational firm. The research methodology was qualitative with semi-structured interviews with programme participants, training organisers, and trainers along with document analyses. The study concludes that future research, theory, and practice should recognise and address gender’s impact in lifelong learning to secure gender equality.
