Abstract
This chapter explores the diversity of health and social care practice learning settings with a focus on non-assessed, virtual and alternate environments. We will consider what constitutes an alternate environment, how to ensure that these meet the requirements of respective standards and equip learners for practice. Ensuring that any practice learning meets the requirements of respective standards and effectively equips learners for practice needs to remain firmly at the heart of any alternative to traditional places and spaces for learning. The chapter explores the challenges and opportunities of facilitating learning and supporting learners within these settings.
