The energy costs of delivered energy: UK 1968

Chapman, P. F. (1973). The energy costs of delivered energy: UK 1968. ERG Report 3; Energy Research Group, The Open University, Milton Keynes.

Abstract

The energy supply industries are the backbone of a modern industrial system. This is evidenced by the industrial chaos resulting from oil or coal shortages and by the fact that the CEGB alone invests about £1 million pounds daily, about 15% of the national investment rate. The energy supply industries consume vast quantities of plant, materials, machinery – and energy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the energy costs of different types of energy in the UK. This is part of a larger study to evaluate the total energy costs of products made in the UK.
