Waller, R. F. (1976). Primary energy requirements for the production of iron and steel in the UK. ERG Report 11; Energy Research Group, The Open University, Milton Keynes.

Abstract

Ironmaking, in common with other extractive processes is a large energy consumer. With the rising costs of fuels the industry has become more aware of its fuel bills and taking steps to reduce its bills and fuel consumption by optimising furnace designs and integrating the steel-works to avoid the need to repeatedly heat the metal in order to perform the necessary processes.
