Abstract

This study explored the transformative potential of digital approaches, pedagogies and technologies in supporting tutors during the early stages of students' learning journeys. Focused on diverse student needs, motivations, and personal contexts, the challenge sought to understand the positive student outcomes resulting from strategic digital interventions in tutor support.

Emphasising the improvement of early experience retention and addressing diverse student demographics, the Quality Enhancement and Innovation (QEI) team at the Institute of Educational Technology (IET) conducted a consultation with 40 tutors at The Open University (OU). The findings aim to illuminate existing practices, challenges, and potential improvements, informing the development of interventions to enhance tutor support, student engagement, and successful module completion at the OU and other distance learning institutions.
