Abstract

This chapter explores ideas of religious liberty among British evangelicals in relation to Roman Catholicism, focussing on the mid-twentieth century period up to Vatican II. It looks at how the coming of totalitarian regimes during the interwar years fed into and reshaped British evangelical understandings of Rome.
