Abstract
The context of this talk was to introduce the design thinking approach to colleagues in The Faculty of Business and Law at The Open University to enable them to adopt this approach in their funding bids related to international development.
I discussed the following topics:
a) the role of Human-Centred Design and Service Design in the design of interactive systems and technologies;
b) introduction to the Design Thinking approach along with examples with the aim of fostering a mindset for design thinking;
c) ethos of Design Thinking and the principles and leadership values that can facilitate adoption of design thinking; and
d) Design Thinking as a process and the toolkits of methods that can help guide each of the stages of the design thinking process.
Finally, a list of research papers and articles in the grey literature related to the Design Thinking approach was provided.
Plain Language Summary
The aim of this presentation was to introduce the Design Thinking to colleagues who were keen to include it as an approach for 'engaged research' in their funding bids in the domain of international development.
