Two first flowering events: Ceropegia dichotoma and Orbea hardyi

Abstract

Ceropegia dichotoma and Orbea hardyi both belong to the plant family the Apocynaceae and flowered simultaneously for the first time in my living plant collection. Ceropegia dichotoma is a 'stick' succulent-stemmed species endemic to the Canary Islands. Its growth form is unusual since the stems branch dichotomously, hence the specific epithet. The flowers are yellow with a narrow tubular corolla and lobes fused at their tips. Orbea hardyi belongs to the largest genus of stapeliads and is endemic to NE South Africa. Its flowers have a shallow corolla tube, promintent central raised annulus and lobes that are cream mottled with dark red.
