Abstract

Waste management is a global challenge that demands innovative solutions for its effective and sustainable resolution. In recent years, the emergence of waste management social enterprises has garnered significant attention. This chapter explores how effective waste management social enterprises (WAMSEs) align with and support the SDGs, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management in fostering sustainable development using case study examples from the Global South. Six case study organisations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America have been selected to explore the impact of these initiatives in the SDGs. What emerged from the findings is that WAMSEs' motivations, operations, and organisational strategies contribute to the SDGs in the Global South.
