Abstract

In order to develop research that is accessible, impactful and beneficial to wider constituencies, it must be openly and effectively shared. This session works through each stage of the research cycle, from conception to post-project activities, demonstrating how researchers can develop communication and engagement strategies throughout.

In the session I will consider and respond to key questions, such as:

How can public communication support your project’s aims?

What information can, and should, you share at each stage?

When is it necessary to keep information confidential?

Plain Language Summary

In this session I propose an underlying rationale for moving from open research towards open (and engaging) research communication. My argument is that open and engaging research communication can help to promote ‘fairness in knowing’. This is particularly important for minoritized constituencies, groups of people that have been, and continue to be, excluded and oppressed by dominant sections of society.
