Abstract

This chapter considers how employability can be developed within the online distance learning environment. It discusses 2 case studies of projects that have run successfully within the Open University Law School and allowed students to develop employability skills. Outlining the aims of the case studies; explaining why and how they were set up, we detail how we managed the various challenges within the projects. The first project involves the design, setting up and operation of a pro bono Criminal Justice Clinic. The second will discuss the design and implementation of an online peer mentoring project. Both will focus on how student employability skills can be developed within an online university environment. Whilst our projects were run online within a law school, the learning from our experiences can be transferred to other disciplines and traditional universities. Top tips will be provided throughout.
