Abstract

In this chapter, French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu's theory of social practice is used to examine how UN gender mainstreaming norms (re)produced in DPKO/DFS training materials are operationalised by the Rwandan Defence Force (RDF) during the pre-deployment training for tactical-level Rwandan military peacekeepers and considers the consequences this operationalisation has for determining how female peacekeepers are equipped prior to deployment.
