Abstract
It was only when Teresa encouraged me to hold up the mirror to my own reading practice that I began thinking seriously about my reader identity. My first thought went back to my childhood and the fond memory of reading together with my grandfather. He and I used to read storybooks together. I remember sitting on my grandfather’s lap and flicking through the colourful pages full of happy stories. I was very young and did not question why all stories featured someone from the family as the main protagonist – most often the main story hero was me.
