Abstract
The macrostability of the active plasma–sheath is examined by extending recent work to include the process of volume ionization in the plasma being joined. The consequence of this is found to be more complicated and physically profound than expected, but nevertheless it is concluded that in real electropositive plasmas the steady-state plasma–sheath solution is one that is temporally stable.
