Abstract
This article deals with the reception of the music of Francis Poulenc in England. Literature on Poulenc in the English periodicals 'The Chestarian', 'The Musical Times' and 'The Monthly Musical Record', owned by publishers are compared to impartial reviews. The role of the BBC and its attendant publications is also examined.The roles of English commentators, in particular Rollo Myers, Wilfrid Mellers and Edward Lockspeiser receive particular attention.
