Abstract

Heidi Hartmann was a leading expert on mesembs (Aizoaceae). Her husband Wilfried Hartmann has published (2020) a tribute to her entitled 'Heidrun E.K. Hartmann 1942-2016'. This note is a review of his book.

The two-volume 'Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants - Aizoaceae' (2017), is the culmination of Heidi's research on mesembs. She is commemorated in the genus Hartmanthus and the species Delosperma heidihartmanniae and Gibbaeum hartmannianum (all Aizoaceae).
