Abstract
As Reader statistics dating back to 18th century at the Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford will testify, librarians like to count things. How many people use our libraries? How many books and journals do we have? How often are they borrowed or accessed electronically? All of these questions have been answered by librarians over the years to develop an insight into the service we provide. As our ability to capture data within our libraries has grown, so has our appetite to know and understand more about our service. In this session, I will discuss the evolving role of Library data, from collective data sets and early COUNTER statistics, thought to customer interaction metrics and library learning analytics.
