Abstract
Open licensing and pedagogies can increase equitable participation in education and effect social change, especially in the developing world. However, open practices don't always transport well across cultures and continents. In the Global South, poor infrastructure, dated ICT equipment and a lack of digital skills can limit the potential of openness. In addition, women can be deterred from open online participation due to the replication online of offline cultures of violence. This workshop explores how open pedagogies can be made safer, more culturally responsive, and more equitable.
