Abstract
This chapter argues that John Donne learned much about verse form and verse shape from his reading of Edmund Spenser: the dialogic connections and resonances of tone between their works are richer and less negative than is conventionally assumed. The essay traces close intertextual links between Spenser and Donne, drawing attention in particular to the significant connections between them as satirists.
