Abstract

This was the first book to examine and review the development of Gaelic Medium Education (GME)in Scotland. It traces the historical development of GME, the practical issues for those engaged in GME and the perspectives from Local Authorities and schools. It also compares the state of GME with language-medium education in Ireland, Wales and the Basque country and sites the issues around GME in the wider political, socio-linguistic and educational context in Scotland.
