Abstract

An ultra-high vacuum electron beam co-evaporation technique was used to obtain SmCo5 thin films,Co/SmCo5/Co trilayers and SmCo5/57Fe bilayers.GIXR,magnetic and Mossbauer studies showed the coercive field of the SmCo5 films to be increased by increasing the film thickness and ,in the case of the trilayers,a strong exchange coupling to be established.Interdiffusion of iron occurred at interfaces.
