Abstract

The 1985 Christmas weather in Kent produced some of the wettest and windiest conditions since the January gales of 1978 which caused widespread damage and flooding. Wind gusts reached 63 knots (72.5 mph) and Jubilee Corner received 55.7mm of rain on 26th December. This article traces the weather from 24th December to 27th December, when the strong N.E. wind eased off, and rain was replaced by frost.
