Lithium insertion in compounds of the type alpha-Fe2-xTixO3

Berry, F.J.; Marco, J.F.; Stewart, S.J. and Widatallah, H.M. (2001). Lithium insertion in compounds of the type alpha-Fe2-xTixO3. Solid State Communications, 117(4) pp. 235–238.

Lithium has been chemically inserted into compounds of the type alpha -Fe2-xTixO3 (x < ca. 0.25). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows the partial reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+. Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy shows a decrease in magnitude of the magnetic hyperfine fields characteristic of the <alpha>-Fe2O3 structure. Similar results have been recorded from materials of formulation alpha -Fe2-xMxO3 (M = Sn, Mg).
