Abstract

This chapter is based on a webinar hosted by Suny Empire State college in New York in 2017. It covers the policy context of adult higher education in the UK and the challenges this has and does present for social inclusion and diversity. Using the Open University and its open access mission as an exemplar it examines the question of what university is and is for in the 21st century and highlights some of the green shoots of lifelong learning emerging across the landscape
