Abstract

This chapter explores the nature of persuasive language and the different approaches taken to its study. It considers the ways in which language is used as a powerful tool for persuasion in a wide variety of different domains, including advertising, rhetoric and political speeches, and the role of persuasion in the public arena in an age of online and digital communication.
