Abstract

This paper reports on the final stages of a two-year pilot project investigating the notion of flexibility through a study of meanings and practices in the context of further education. The study explores the tensions that exist when different notions of flexibility - the flexible workforce, flexible learning, flexible contracts - are invoked in attempts to establish andrespond to student need.
