Clifton, Grace (2013). The educational challenges facing children in military families. AQA, Manchester.
Abstract
In the United Kingdom there are estimated to be well over 100,000 children from a military background (HMSO, 2006) which include children with parents in the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force. Recent research (RNRMCF, 2009) has considered the challenges faced by military children in the UK. It concluded that military children are faced with several unique situations - when their (serving) parent is away, the impact of moving home and school regularly and the possibility of bereavement and parental injury. Given these, it is not surprising that this can be manifested in emotional and behavioural difficulties (DfE, 2010:25) which may have an impact on a child’s performance at school.
