Abstract
Based on extensive archive research in Oxford - and part of the official history of the Oxford University Press - this is the first ever full account of the evolution and distribution of OUP's textbooks, both for the home and the overseas markets, during the first three quarters of the twentieth century. There is a particular emphasis, both on the politics of the press, and of the development of English language teaching, during this busy period.
