Abstract

This workshop will introduce two online learning tools that have been used to develop academic skills materials for our students at Brunel. The first is the Learning Object Creator tool which has been developed by the Subject Centre in Southampton. The tool is an easy-to-use piece of software that provides a pedagogic template for the creation of learning activities (learning objects) that can then be used in a VLE or on a website to support online or blended learning. As part of a project to develop materials using the tool, this workshop will present some of the materials developed and feedback on their use by students. The second learning tool is Course Genie which can be added to Microsoft Word and used to develop online materials. The workshop will introduce some of the materials developed and feedback on their use by students. The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to look at some of the materials developed as well as discuss some reflections on using the tools.
