Abstract

This paper examines the rationale and various other issues underlying the privatization of public sector enterprises (PSEs). The focus is privatization of public utilities in particular power utilities a sector which has been criticised in India for poor performance in the public sector. We relate the British experience of privatizing electricity industry with a view to examining lessons for India from the British approach to privatization.
