Abstract
The amazing collection of Alexander Turnbull and the variety of books he collected including works by Shakespeare is discussed. The ‘future national collection’ that Turnbull assembled was, in fact, trans-national in scope, as it had to be, because the world of the book was, and is, inescapably trans-national.
