Abstract

Economic activity among prisoners includes gambling, money lending, trading in goods, drug importation, alcohol manufacture and other illict trading. Some level of economic activity among prisoners is inevitable and not necessarily inherently problematic, but attendant issues of indebtedness and the risky nature of some illicit economic activities do present problems for prison managers.
