Abstract

This title provides an overview of some of the key legal issues that affect youth in Commonwealth countries. The issues covered fall, directly or indirectly, within the scope of the Harare Commonwealth Declaration of 1991. Its contents are as follows: The importance of a constitution; The law and its place in society; What makes good governance - the structure of government, organising elections, checks and balance of political power, the constitutional role of the military; Human rights - how people can enforce their rights; Human rights - freedom of expression and assembly, right of access to the media; Law and order - youth as victims of crime and offenders.
