Abstract
This chapter offers a critical overview of issues relating to the representation of Judaism in the cinema. Beginning with a discussion of Joan Micklin Silver's 1975 film, Hester Street, it considers Judaism in silent film; Judaism and Jewish-Christian relations in post Shoah cinema; Israeli films depicting Judaism; Screen images of Hasidic Judaism, and Judaism and postmodernism in the cinema.
