Abstract
This chapter examines the potential practical applications of the principles and practices of palliative care in nursing and residential care homes in Great Britain. It describes two case studies that demonstrate issues in relation to end-of-life practice in a residential home particularly around communication issues and communication about pain relief, within the home, with residents, relatives, and other professionals. It suggests that the quality of dying the residents in these case studies may have been improved if specialist palliative care services were available.
