Abstract
This chapter examines how carers deal with and manage the deaths of nursing and residential care homes residents in Great Britain. It describes the procedures involved when a resident dies and analyses the impact of residents' deaths on the care staff. The findings indicate that dealing with death in care homes poses a number of challenges for staff and that its practical implications are time consuming and the whole experience can be emotionally draining
