Abstract
The New and Expectant Parent Mental Health Supervisor Toolkit provides comprehensive guidance on supporting employees experiencing perinatal mental health challenges within UK policing.
Drawing on transdisciplinary research and empirical studies, the toolkit explores the impact of perinatal mental illness (PMI) on individuals and workplace dynamics. It addresses key issues, including the stigma surrounding PMI, barriers to seeking help, and the unique challenges of policing work, such as exposure to trauma and shift patterns. Practical recommendations are offered, such as structured well-being conversations, phased return-to-work plans, flexible working options, and integration of mental health support into existing workplace policies. This resource aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for new and expectant parents in UK policing.
