Abstract

This editorial marks the beginning of our tenure as editors of Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management: An International Journal (QROM). Building on the foundations laid by our predecessors, we reaffirm QROM’s commitment to critical, qualitative inquiry that challenges conventional organizational and management paradigms. In this issue, we introduce the concept of the “critical imagination” as a framework to inspire rigorous, innovative research that addresses pressing global challenges, including inequality, ecological responsibility, and social justice. We invite diverse perspectives, interdisciplinary engagement, and alternative methodologies to enrich qualitative research and expand its impact beyond academia, fostering both intellectual and social transformation.

Plain Language Summary

This editorial introduces our vision for the future of Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management. We celebrate the journal’s role in advancing critical, qualitative studies and emphasize the importance of research that challenges traditional ways of thinking about organizations. Central to our approach is the idea of the “critical imagination,” which encourages creative and thoughtful exploration of issues such as inequality and climate change. We welcome research from diverse global contexts and perspectives, aiming to make qualitative studies more impactful and inclusive. Through this, we hope to inspire meaningful academic and societal change.
