Abstract

The 2020 NBN Conference and NBN Trust AGM took place online on Wednesday 18 November, 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was held online for the first time and ran in collaboration with iSpotnature, Faculty of STEM, The Open University. The theme “The NBN at 20 – Changing times”, also marked the 20th anniversary of the NBN Trust. 199 delegates joined across the course of the day, the highest ever number of attendees for an NBN Conference.

In this presentation Janice Ansine and Mike Dodd present a summary of the NBN 2020 Conference iSpot BioBlitz results; as well as updates on iSpot projects, future plans and opportunities for participants to get involved. As a lead up to the Conference iSpot users, conference participants and all were invited to help countdown and join a mini bioblitz with iSpot to capture a map of autumn’s wildlifeI It was noted that in 2020 "these are challenging times but being around nature helps us cope and is good for our wellbeing. So let's do this collectively, sharing observations of what we can see around us."
The invitation further stated: We know the current situation is challenging and the weather is not ideal but we would like as many people as possible from across the UK, to join in using your imagination to find wildlife in your local area, Please do follow the latest Covid-19 guidelines. You can also get involved by helping with agreements and identification of other observations or making comments. If you are unable to attend the Conference but would still like to participate in this autumn bioblitz, add the NBNconf20 tag to your observations."
