Abstract

Drawing on a single case study of Riara University, Nairobi, Kenya, this study critically explores how a conventional university can be transformed into an entrepreneurial university through developing transformational entrepreneurship initiatives. To begin with, we developed a concept framework for how a university can contribute to transformational entrepreneurship and applied the framework to analyse how Riara University navigated the challenges of, and opportunities for, building an institutional entrepreneurial culture. We then explored how the university translated the entrepreneurial culture into practices and learning programmes, aimed at supporting the development of diverse stakeholders in ways that promote an entrepreneurial ecosystem that actively contributes to uplifting the local economy.
