Lead author, wrote 100% of main text, of research undertaken with Barnes who designed data collection and analysis, and co-worker on documentary reading and interviews. Second national biennial study of child deaths and serious injuries subject to local serious case review, competitively commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills. On a high profile subject, the first study to explore the impact of case reviews and use made of lessons learned, informing government and local agencies about their effectiveness. It contributes new knowledge to advance national and local policy and practice. A key text internationally for research in child safeguarding.
