Abstract

Desmidorchis as a genus of stapeliads (family Apocynaceae) has had a very chequered history. The taxonomic and nomenclatural issues involved are complex and are summarised here. After a wait of 12 years the Nomenclatural Committee, as the recognised arbiter of nomenclatural problems, has accepted that proposal that Desmidorchis should be recognised as a conserved name with Desmidorchis retrospiciens as the conserved type.
