Abstract
Possibly the most powerful motivation for belief in the existence of God is the intolerability of all that has meaning and value for us personally being eradicated when we die, so it is as though we had never lived. For those who cannot believe in God they have to be consoled by far less, if indeed anything at all, as the truth is what has meaning and value for us does indeed evaporate forever when we cease to exist.
