Abstract

This personal reflection on cognitive dimensions (CDs) over the past decade is in three parts: an account of how empirical studies of professional software developers informed the development of CDs in the early 1990s; an articulation of unresolved issues 'beyond the notation' which were emphasized by the empirical studies and which might yet be addressed by CDs; and a speculation on the application of facet theory to CDs as a possible approach to those issues.
