Abstract
This paper provides an approach in the field of cleaner production, by showing how game theory could be applied to better understand the possible actions of government and manufacturers in the context of a ‘game’ to achieve more environmentally friendly products. In order to demonstrate the problem situation of cleaner production more visually, the ‘Gambit’ software package is used to simulate the created game model conceived as a “two person non-cooperative” game. With the improvement of cleaner production, different game scenarios have been generated to reflect the variation trend of strategic actions. The application of game theory is shown to provide a useful insight
to inform strategic decision making in both government and manufacturers. In addition, the limitation of the game model and the associated analysis has also been discussed, which lays a foundation for further work
