Abstract

21 folktales taped from informants, introduced, translated into French and annotated. Chez les Igbo, les contes de la ruse ont tous la Tortue pour personnage principal. Profondément égoïste, vaniteuse, cupide, paresseuse mais débrouillarde, amorale, voire cruelle, elle a pourtant de nombreux admirateurs. En effet, ses talents en matière de tromperie lui permettent de rivaliser avec les grands et les puissants, et elle incarne ainsi la victoire de la Ruse sur la Force. Il lui arrive cependant d'aller trop loin : aveuglée par sa mégalomanie, elle défie le monde surnaturel, signant là sa perte.
