Abstract
Back in 1989, Rubin Louis wrote a piece for the Journal of Teacher Education entitled ‘The Thinking Teacher: Cultivating Pedagogical Intelligence’. Quinlan’s book The Thinking Teacher shares more than the title with Rubin’s work: the two authors start from the premise that good teachers are those who are active thinkers, who conceptualise curricular outcomes to be more than a rubric and who reflect on the various instructional options available to them.
