Abstract

This paper explores issue about defining of the work of academic developers. It arose from discussions between the authors at the University of New England and colleagues elsewhere who were struggling to find suitable performance measures for their work. The diversity of roles and activities required of academic developers in the various contexts of their work is a critical factor making the job of definition more difficult. Therefore, the intent of the paper is to site the issues in current theory and to propose an instrument to our colleagues, who we encourage to use it and provide us with feedback.
