This is a detailed, archival study of the photographs that Le Corbusier took between 1907 and 1917 and between 1936 and 1938. The first half of the book reverses many of the assumptions in the literature about the young Le Corbusier's experiments with photography, demonstrating that he made a serious attempt to take professional photographs and dedicated much more time, money and effort to this undertaking that he hiumself admits. There is also a completely new analysis of the quality and meaning of these photogrtaphs. The second half of the book explores a completely unknown body of work, the 6,000 photographs whcih Le Corbusier took with a 16mm movie camera. A case is made here for a fundamental re-thinking of Le Corbusier's photographic aesthetic and personal taste in the 1930s.
